THE SOUTH AFRICAN INSTITUTION OF MECHANICAL ENGINEERS The South African Institution of Mechanical Engineers was founded in 1892 and was the original organisation formed to represent the interests of Engineers in South Africa. Today it is still the central body promoting the progress of Mechanical Engineering by providing a forum for the latest technology through its meetings and journal - and through its representation of the profession on National Councils.

THE SOUTH AFRICAN INSTITUTE OF MATERIALS HANDLING This year The South African Institute of Materials Handling celebrates its 21st Anniversary. It is a Professional Institute for all persons involved in the many facets of Materials Handling Engineering and Materials Management.
The Institute is committed to education and the development of the Science of Materials Handling. Areas of involvement include bulk solids handling, stacking and reclaiming, pneumatic and hydraulic conveying, unit handling, palletisation, containerisation and physical distribution.
Lectures, seminars and conferences are held on a regular basis and correspondence courses are offered over one year for the Certificate of Storemanship and three years for the Diploma in Materials Handling.
